Had dinner at Southern Spice yesterday. In a nutshell – good food, quick, efficient, and unfriendly service.
We had appams, ragi sangati and rice with chicken, fish and prawn side dishes.
While the dishes were well-spiced, they were not fiery. They combined well with the appams and rice, and were satisfactory.
The surprise was the ragi sangati. It was soft and sticky, and very mild tasting. Its taste and texture were perfect to bring out the taste of the meat in the gravies, and it was definitely the winner of the day.
For such delicious food, their service was rather unfriendly. We were asked by the maitre’d to “reduce the volume” of our conversation (we weren’t exactly quiet, but we weren’t bringing down the place either), and once we had finished, were asked to leave rather quickly.
The prices were a bit on the higher side, with a single appam priced at Rs.40, and the meals marked at about Rs. 200. For such fancy prices, the restaurant does not deliver in terms of ambience or service.
All in all, a good place to buy food from, though not a very nice place to eat the food in.
